Community development sits at the heart of Meher Welfare Trust’s mission. When families have access to quality learning, basic preventive health information, and dignified ways to earn a living, entire neighbourhoods become more resilient. Our NGO programmes in Pakistan prioritise listening first: we work with elders, women’s groups, and youth leaders to co-design initiatives that reflect real priorities rather than top-down assumptions.
Across the regions we serve, we see the same pattern: small, consistent investments in education and skills unlock confidence and civic participation. Parents who once felt excluded from formal schooling begin advocating for their children’s futures. Young people discover pathways into apprenticeships, digital literacy, and community volunteering. This is the practical meaning of sustainable development in a welfare context—change that continues because the community owns it.
Education, health, and livelihoods: our three pillars
Our education support ranges from remedial classes and school supplies to awareness sessions on child safety and retention in secondary school. In parallel, health outreach focuses on nutrition basics, maternal and newborn hygiene, and signposting to local clinics—always delivered in plain language and local languages so knowledge spreads beyond a single event.
For livelihoods and sustainable living, we favour approaches that protect dignity: micro-grants for tools, cooperative kitchen gardens, and mentorship for home-based enterprises. Where possible we connect beneficiaries with fair local markets rather than one-off handouts, so families can plan beyond the next month.
